1.  Creative Teaching (Workshop - Adult Participants only)  Length:  2 hours   Suitable # Participants: A total of 32-48 people (adults only)  is ideal

“Creative Teaching” is an exciting, fun, fully interactive workshop for parents, teachers and professionals.  Participants have the opportunity to learn about and take part in experiences which stimulate and challenge students who have special learning needs(such as Down Syndrome, Gifted and Talented, learning difficulties etc)  .  This workshop shows how educational resources can be adapted to meet each student’s individual learning needs, challenging each student to achieve his or her own best.  All participants will receive a selection of resources to take home and enjoy.  This workshop relates well to the needs of students who have special learning needs from pre-school through to high school.

 

2.  Understanding and adapting to students with special learning needs (Speaker Presentation - Adult Participants only)   Length:  2 hours, 3 hours or full day  

Suitable # of Participants:  Minimum of 30 is best, Maximum is unlimited and simply depends on how large the lecture venue is.  “Special Learning Needs” is a lecture style presentation which focuses on ways in which parents, teachers and other professionals can adjust their teaching style and resources in response to the needs of students who have special learning needs (such as Down Syndrome, Gifted and Talented, learning difficulties etc)  The presentation will focus on understanding the vital role of structure, support and scaffolding, and providing participants with skills and strategies to comfortably adapt their resources and teaching style to meet their student’s individual learning needs.

 

3.  Precision Academics   How to use Precision Academics adapted educational resources to meet the individual learning needs of students in mainstream, special education and home schooling environments.  (Speaker Presentation - Adult Participants only)  Length:  2 hours   Suitable # of Participants:  Unlimited. 

This lecture style presentation offers a direct focus on the range of workbooks, programs and resources which are included in the Precision Academics program.  This is suitable for parents, teachers, teacher’s assistants and therapists involved in the education of students from about 4 years to about 18 years of age.  Precision Academics resources are ideal for students who have special learning needs (such as Down Syndrome, Gifted and Talented, learning difficulties etc)  , whether they are in a mainstream class, a special education facility or are home schooled.

 

4.  Creative Minds  (Workshop - Family Participants)    Length:  2 hours    Suitable # Participants: A total of 32-48 people (adults and young people)  is ideal

“Creative Minds” is a team challenge workshop for families.  This workshop is suitable for young people with special learning needs (such as Down Syndrome, Gifted and Talented, learning difficulties etc)   from about 10 to 18 years old, accompanied by a family member who plays as their team partner. Family groups are then formed into larger teams, so it is a great way of getting to know lots of people.  Teams work together to take part in an exciting range of games and challenges, suitable for a wide range of ability levels. This workshop is tremendous fun and gives parents and their children a chance to really find out what they can accomplish through teamwork and a willingness to ‘have a go’.

Overview:

Precision Academics is able to provide a comprehensive package to assist schools in their commitment towards best practise inclusive education.   We provide our Resource Bank on its own, or we are able to offer this product in conjunction with our 1 or 2 day Professional Development Workshops which further develop staff skills in best practise for special education.  These outstanding workshops are suitable for  a range of educational settings including  - inclusive education, special education classes and distance education models.  We are able to tailor our workshops to meet your district’s individual needs.

 

Our resources are now being used across schools in Australia, New Zealand,  Canada and the United States.

 

We welcome the opportunity to assist  your teachers and educational assistants as they work towards providing the best possible learning outcomes for students who have special learning needs.

 

 

The package includes:

1.       Professional Development through an outstanding, highly activity-based workshop using either a One Day Workshop or a  Two Day “Train the Trainer” model of service provision.

2.       Supplying each participating school with the Precision Academics Resource Bank – consisting of over 400 adapted education Workbooks and Special Programs (over 6,000 pages of resources)  to support curriculum differentiation for all students with special learning needs

 

Part One:  Professional Development

Precision Academics provides a full day, hands on, highly  educational , entertaining and inspirational workshop for teachers and educational assistants:    “Inclusive Education  -  Differentiating the curriculum to support students  who have special learning needs”      This Workshop is also available as a two day “Train the Trainer” Workshop which can be offered to one or two staff members from each school in the district, and will prepare each participant to provide a one day workshop back at their own school.

 

“Inclusive Education  -  Differentiating the curriculum to support students  who have special learning needs”      covers the following topics:

1.      What kind of special learning needs are we likely to encounter in our classrooms?

2.      What do research and reports tell us about Inclusive Education?

3.      Understanding the role of Working Memory in Curriculum Differentiation

4.      Twelve examples of “Key Learning Skills” which help students to develop  their creativity, confidence, problem solving, listening and instruction following skills, working memory and communication skills

5.      Specific strategies which help students with special learning needs access the curriculum

6.      Curriculum Differentiation – Bridging the gap between professional reports and recommendations, Individual Education Plans and day to day classroom teaching

7.      Specific training in the Precision Academics Resource Bank 

a.       Why and How to use the resource bank for curriculum differentiation

b.       Placement, Tracking Progress and Accountability

c.       Individual Education Plans – linking IEP’s to day to day curriculum

8.      How to produce your own Adapted Education Resources

 

This workshop comes highly recommended by Dr. Ashleigh Molloy, chosen as 2007 Educational Leader of the Year by the Council for Exceptional Children (C E C). His community service includes his role as President of  the Down Syndrome Association of Toronto, Vice President of the Down Syndrome Association of Ontario, as Canadian representative on the Down Syndrome International World Congress.   He also serves as a Board member with the Ontario Coalition for Inclusive Education and with the Ontario Council for Exceptional Children.  This full day Workshop was used as part of the 2008 York University Summer Graduate School course for teachers upgrading their special education qualifications, where it was described as one of the “highlights of the course”.

 

                                               

 

Part Two:  Supplying each school with the Precision Academics Resource Bank

The Precision Academics Resource Bank can be provided to each school, ensuring that every member of staff has easy access to the widest possible range of adapted education resources to support their students with special learning needs.  The Resource Bank contains over 6,000 pages of resources, organised into 400+ Workbooks.
